Former world cycling champion Colin Sturgess joins Blanca Bikes

Blanca Bikes is pleased to announce a new team member: Colin Sturgess, the former World and British Champion cyclist will be joining the team at Blanca Bikes as lead bike tour guide sharing his cycling knowledge, skills, and love of the Costa Blanca with clients of Blanca Bikes.

Colin brings a wealth of experience (plus many a tale) to the crew, and with his extensive knowledge of the area will be taking guided rides around the beautiful countryside on our doorstep.

Colin is a former professional cyclist from Great Britain who began his cycling career as a track cyclist, winning several national titles in the individual pursuit and points race during the 1980s. In 1990, Colin made the transition to road cycling and quickly established himself as one of the top British riders of his generation. He won the British National Road Race Championships in 1990 and 1991, and also competed in the Tour de France in 1991 and 1993. Colin was known for his climbing ability and was particularly successful in hilly races. He won the King of the Mountains classification in the Tour of Britain in 1992 and 1994, and also won the prestigious Milk Race in 1992.

In addition to his success on the road, Colin continued to compete in track cycling events throughout his career. He won the individual pursuit at the 1993 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, becoming the first British rider to win a world title in the event in over 70 years.

We all feel very lucky here at Blanca Bikes that Colin has chosen to join us and share his skills and expertise with our cycling holiday, bike hire and guided tour customers. With colin leading the way we can tailor your guided ride experience from one hour to six or seven hours. Colin can guide you up and around some of the most iconic climbs and routes such as Col de Rates, Tudons, Vall de Gallinara, Val de Ebo, Tollos, Tarbena, Guadalest or the fast flat roads of Pego and beyond. Some level of fitness is required, as is competency on the bike.

Colin retired from professional cycling in 2000 and has since become a coach and cycling commentator. He has coached several top-level cyclists, including Olympic gold medallist Bradley Wiggins and former world champion Mark Cavendish. Despite retiring over 20 years ago from competitive cycling, Colin remains a respected figure in the world of cycling. His achievements as a rider and coach have earned him a place in British cycling history, and he continues to inspire and mentor the next generation of riders including those who visit us here at Blanca Bikes.

Please contact Blanca Bikes for further information on booking a guided bike tour with either Colin or other members of our experienced cycling tour guiding

Blanca Bikes now have a cafe, workshop and rental centre in Parcent. I've been to the cafe a couple of times and the food is excellent as is the coffee. I was there again today and arrived in need of help as I had just crashed off my bike and was bleeding, sore, and with a rather broken bike. The staff were phenomenal, I didn't need to ask for help, they came to the rescue as soon as they saw my state (which wasn't terrible). A first Aid kit was quickly made available as was a comfortable place to recover. Coffee was brought to me, more staff came to offer assistance. The mechanic, who was about to finish for the day came to check over my bike. The rear mech had been pushed into the spokes and neither wheel was spinning properly. He quickly fixed all these issues. I had arranged for my partner to come pick me up and when the mechanic saw us starting to dismantle the bike to get it in the car, he rushed over to help us again, neatly packing it in for us. Sometimes it takes a little crisis to realise and remember there are some wonderful people in this world, today I was reminded of this. A very big thank you to all at Blanca Bikes :-)

Great stay here for 2 weeks. Couldn’t have asked for anything more. Blancabikes looked after me and very well and took care of all my needs. This is a brilliant place to come to for training, and only being a 5 minute ride from the coast, you have all the cafes and restaurants you could ask for. I would seriously recommend to anyone looking a cycling getaway.

What a great place to rent a bicycle at Blanca Bikes to explore the area around Xabia (Javéa)! Perfect bikes of very high quality (I rented the Cervélo Solist Rival). And I very much liked the professionalism and kindness of Nigel who helped me getting this unforgettable experience!

We used Bianca bikes for a transfer from Alicante to Calpe, 4 people with 4 bike boxes. Super slick, the driver was waiting for us in arrivals at the airport and we were straight into the private bus parked outside. They even helped us with a mechanical in Parcent on our last day free of charge. Thank you.

This was my first experience on a bike camp and I would recommend Blanca Bikes for anyone interested in a great cycling adventure. The staff was great, breakfast every morning was world class, and the cycling in the Xabia area is world class.

Unreal 3 days riding with Blanca! A very friendly and relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, something for everyone. We were a group of 4 medium / keen cyclists and couldn’t have been better - some stupidly nice routes around the area, the bikes we were given the best bikes we’ve ever ridden and the breakfast in the morning sorted us right out. Couldn’t recommend this enough! Cheers to Nigel Peter and the rest of the team for sorting us out
