On Saturday, September 24th, 2022, the Gran Fondo Alberto Contador, the most high-profile Costa Blanca Cycling Sportive returns to the Valencia town of Oliva for the Sportive’s eleventh edition.
Alberto Contador, the former professional cyclist, and several times grand tour winner said that he was “delighted that Oliva is once again the setting for the TotalEnergies Gran Fondo Alberto Contador, the ideal destination to combine sport and tourism in a very demanding route for the participant”.
This is the fourth year in a row that Oliva has been chosen as the start (and finish) town of this outstanding Spanish cycling sportive and has been chosen again because of the beautiful local landscapes and the demanding nature of the local roads, which make it the perfect destination for lovers of road cycling and cycling sportives. The route will take in two of the most beautiful climbs the area has to offer, Mirador del Xap and the Coll de Rates. These climbs are two of the most demanding sections that will pose a real challenge for the participants of the Gran Fondo Alberto Contador in 2022.
For the eleventh edition of the Gran Fondo Alberto Contador 2022, the organisation planning the event has expanded the number of riders able to take part to 4,000 (up by 1,000 on the previous sportive number of 3,000 riders). Those riders who manage to get their number before the event is sold out will be able to choose between the two routes offered by the event: a 162km Gran Fondo and a 111km Medio Fondo, both closed traffic routes that allow the cyclists to enjoy a great day of riding with maximum safety. The last edition of the sportive sold out and brought together 3,000 cyclists, and we are sure that this year it will be a success again with 4,000 riders expected to take part.
