BLANCA BIKES BLOG

What’s the best time of year to go cycling on the Costa Blanca?

The Costa Blanca is a popular destination for cycling enthusiasts, thanks to its scenic routes and mild climate. The region is located on the eastern coast of Spain, stretching from Denia in the north to Torrevieja in the south, and is renowned for its stunning beaches, picturesque mountains, and charming villages. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or a beginner, there’s something for everyone on the Costa Blanca.

If you’re planning a cycling trip to the region, it’s important to know the best time of year to go. The weather can vary significantly depending on the time of year, so it’s essential to choose the right season for your trip. Here’s a breakdown of the best time of year to cycle on the Costa Blanca and to help you to book one of our cycling holidays in Spain.

Spring (March to May)

Spring is a fantastic time to cycle on the Costa Blanca. The temperatures are mild and comfortable, with highs ranging between 20°C and 25°C, making it perfect for cycling. The countryside is in full bloom, and the scenery is breath-taking, with fields of almond trees, cherry blossoms, and wildflowers in full bloom.

The spring months are also a great time to visit the many charming villages and towns in the region. You can stop for a coffee or a bite to eat in one of the traditional Spanish cafes or restaurants and soak up the local culture.

Summer (June to August)

The summer months on the Costa Blanca can be challenging for cyclists, with temperatures soaring to highs of up to 35°C or more. However, if you’re up for the challenge, cycling during the summer can be an exhilarating experience.

To avoid the hottest part of the day, it’s recommended to cycle during the early morning or late afternoon. You can cool off with a dip in the sea or a refreshing drink at one of the many beach bars along the coast. The summer months are also a great time to enjoy the many water sports on offer, such as surfing, kayaking, and paddleboarding.

Autumn (September to November)

Autumn is another great time to cycle on the Costa Blanca. The temperatures are milder than in the summer, with highs ranging between 20°C and 25°C, making it an ideal time for cycling. The countryside is still lush and green, and you can enjoy the autumnal colours of the forests and vineyards.

The autumn months are also a great time to sample the local cuisine, with plenty of traditional Spanish dishes on offer, such as paella, tapas, and fresh seafood. You can also visit one of the many wine cellars in the region and sample some of the excellent local wines.

Winter (December to February)

Winter can be a challenging time to cycle on the Costa Blanca, with temperatures dropping significantly, with highs ranging from 10°C to 15°C. However, with the right preparations, cycling can still be enjoyable. It’s essential to dress in layers to stay warm and to be aware of the potential for rain.

The winter months are also a great time to explore the many cultural attractions in the region, such as museums, art galleries, and historic monuments. You can also attend one of the many fiestas and festivals that take place throughout the winter months, such as the Feast of San Antonio in January.

Overall, the best time of year to cycle on the Costa Blanca is during the spring and autumn months, when the weather is mild and comfortable. However, with the right precautions, cycling can still be enjoyable during the summer and winter months. So, plan your trip accordingly, and enjoy the beautiful scenery and challenging routes that the Costa Blanca has to offer!

What a great cycling break in Javea! Having hired a bike from Peter before, I knew they would be of a high standard and wasn’t disappointed. Excellent accommodation in the beautiful old town with easy access to a wide variety of eateries. So well looked after at the hotel by Carolina and out on the road by Peter. It was good getting their full attention and can easily imagine a larger group having great fun after some sunny cycling

Peter is a very knowledgeable cyclist and a nice guy too! Bikes are lovely - rented an orbea M20 or M30 with ultegra. Great frame, climbed fantastically, really impressed with the set up and how well maintained everything was. Highly recommended for cyclists keen to explore a stunning area on excellent kit.
